Below are is a detailed comparison guide of my favorites along with a write up of each product and my experience with it. Please keep in mind that a weight gainer should be used sparingly and should be mostly used by someone that’s an ectomorph or someone that has a really hard time gaining weight. Using a weight gainer supplement when you are out of shape will only make you GAIN weight. If you are looking to add size and mass, and are on the thinner side, then this is the right direction for you.

Now that you’ve looked at my guide of the best weight gainer supplements and reviews, let’s get a little deeper and dive into each and every product I have here in my chart. You need to keep in mind that again, depending on your body type, you may or may not benefit more from one of these products over another. I’m pretty much an Optimum Nutrition addict because of both the quality and cost effectiveness, so let’s jump right in.
Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass:
This is the ectomorph’s dream. 1250 Calories per serving with 50 grams of protein and 250 grams of carbs. It also contains Glutamine and Creatine. If you are looking for a great combination mass supplement than this is absolutely one of the best you can buy. Just make sure you are not overdoing it with your creatine intake by stacking a ton of creatine on top of taking this supplement. Same goes for glutamine. I’ve personally had great results with this product and I think it’s one of the most effective weight gainers on the market.
Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex Gainer:
This weight gainer is highly effective for anyone that has a tendency to add a little more fat while trying to bulk up. Within one serving you lock down 650 calories, 60 grams of protein and 85 grams of carbohydrates. If you are trying to gain weight but want a supplement that is higher on the protein end while being lighter in calories than other weight gainer products, this is a great option. The different blends of protein (egg, whey, and casein) all do a great job of building lean muscle. Pro Complex Gainer can be taken post workout and/or later in the evening.
Cytosport Monster Mass:
Cytosport has another “taste” winner in its line of popular workout supplements. Monster Mass is a little pricier than some of the other Weight Gainers on the market, but it makes up for the price with outstanding taste and being one of the more easily mixable products. The consistency is smooth and similar to the Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex Gainer, it’s got a very nice blend of different types of protein. With Monster Mass, you can expect to get 600 calories, 50 grams of protein and 75 grams of carbohydrates. There are also plenty of other nutrients packed into this weight gainer that help this qualify as one of my favorites on the list.
Universal Nutrition Real Gains:
Universal Nutrition Real Gains is a reasonably priced and quality weight gainer. Sticking to mostly protein as well, this product doesn’t have as good of a taste as Cytosport’s Monster Mass or either of the Optimum Nutrition Weight Gainers, but it makes up for it by making sure it’s priced in line with competitors. You can expect to get 602 Calories along with 53 Grams of Protein and 84 Grams of Carbs out of the Chocolate Version. It also sits nicely with only 7 grams of sugar. Not my personal favorite, but definitely a contender.
BSN True-Mass Weight Gainer:
BSN’s True Mass Product is probably my least favorite on this list just because of the price. One bucket gets you about 16 servings, so expect to pony up to buy 2 of them to get you through a month. With 710 Calories, 50 grams of protein and 90 grams of carbohydrates, it sits right in the wheelhouse of the ON and Cytosport Brands. It does have 15 grams of sugar as well, which might be an issue for those of you that are not ectomorphs. It’s still a quality product, but I think that there is better value in any of the four we’ve already talked about in detail. BSN is quality and I do like BSN’s line of Pre Workout Products.
Now that we’ve covered what I feel are the best weight gainer supplements with detailed reviews, it’s up to you to get out there and figure out if it’s something worth adding to your diet and nutrition plan. While there are other weight gainers out there like the CB-1 , the products I’ve listed here in our review guide are the ones I would turn to first if I was looking to add some serious mass. Weight Gainers can be a highly effective tool to use when training for folks looking to add bulk and size in a short time frame. Obviously you need to make sure you are getting enough rest and you have a solid strength training routine, but supplementation will always be highly effective when effectively coupled with a great training regimen. Take a look at some of our Creatine Reviews, T-Boost Info and other muscle building supplements for more information on great nutrition products that will help you get your ideal physique.
